05/27/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Keizer (Salem), OR Nicolas is a hardworking 2B/OF prospect who has a versatile skill set. At 2B, Nicolas plays with active footwork covering good ground. He fields the ball in a square position with a firm glove. Nicolas shows solid footwork on his double play turns. He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and is developing arm strength. As a right-handed hitter, Nicolas has a tall setup with his weight on his toes. He has a good base and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Nicolas has an upward swing path and can speed up his bat. He shows the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. In the outfield, Nicolas does a nice job staying behind the baseball while still playing with an aggressive approach. He makes the routine plays and moves with firm footwork. Nicolas has a clean exchange leading into a restricted arm action. He is working to play through the ball with momentum towards his target. Overall, Nicolas is a coachable prospect who has potential to elevate his skills with development.

11/06/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Hillsboro, OR Nicholas is a talented, well-built 2B/OF prospect who graduates in 2021. Offensively, Nicholas has a tall setup and is on-time with his stride. He has a smooth rhythm and maintains a centered balance. Nicholas does a nice job obtaining extension at contact. He is a contact hitter with the ability to be able to produce solid contact up the middle and to the opposite field. At 2B, Nicholas plays with active footwork and moves well in each direction laterally. He presents his glove and fields it square with a quick exchange leading into a loose arm action. Nicholas plays through the baseball with good momentum towards his targets showing throws that are consistently online. In the outfield, Nicholas plays with effective footwork getting a good jump on the baseball with a quick first step. He covers some ground and gets behind the baseball. Nicholas has clean glove work leading into an over the top throwing motion. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Nicolas is a lean, athletic 2B who will graduate in 2021. At 2B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach while presenting glove well out front. He moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively and adds overall body strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 5 years to further develop, Nicolas has a good upside with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
