12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Nicolas is a strong (6’1"/185) 3B/RHP who showed well at the Recruiting Classic. At 3B, he displays active prep with smooth/athletic actions. He tracks the GB into a soft mitt, gathers well and has a quick release throwing the ball with zip & accuracy (81 mph arm) across the diamond. Offensively, he starts in a square setup with high/loose hands. He has a controlled stride with an on-plane swing. Nicolas has good mechanics with gap-to-gap power, recording his best exit velo to date (77 mph exit velo). From the mound, he threw on a good down plane, showing a FB in the mid 70's with some arm-side run. He pitches to contact with a short arm action, throwing strikes. Nicolas is a solid all-around 2-way player who has the skills that will make an impact.

05/26/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Keizer (Salem), OR Nicolas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He plays hard and is not afraid to get dirty. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 77 mph. Fastball showed a range of 72-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Nicolas is a skilled and athletic corner infielder who continues to progress. Defensively at 3B, he takes a quick first step and works into an athletic fielding position behind the GB. He gathers well and works in-line toward his target on throws across the diamond. With the bat, this righty steps into the box with an open stand and centered balance. He is a patient hitter and has a good eye for the zone, proven by drawing 4 walks in 7 AB's. He is a contact type hitter who looks to square the ball up and drive the middle of the field. Only a 2021 grad - Nicolas has upside with still a ton of time to develop.

05/27/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Keizer (Salem), OR Nicolas is a wiry built 3B/RHP prospect who has a talented skill set. At the hot corner, Nicolas plays with active footwork and makes all the routine plays. He moves with good body control and fields the ball in a square position with firm hands. Nicolas throws with a loose arm action from a low 3/4 arm slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball showing consistently strong throws across the diamond. Offensively, Nicolas has a tall setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has a good load with a long stride. Nicolas has a long swing path and is developing bat speed. He has a repeatable swing and flashes the ability to be a line drive type hitter. On the mound, Nicolas has a quiet delivery with balanced, on-time mechanics. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot and lands closed to home plate. Nicolas effectively uses his front side and pivots off his back foot. He commands his fastball with tail movement and his medium breaking curveball. Overall, Nicolas is a versatile prospect who has a wide range of abilities.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Nicolas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and he presents on time and out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Fastball showed a range of 61-67 mph. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters, throwing strikes to both sides of the plate. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Nicolas is a lean 1B who will graduate in 2021. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field through a line drive approach. At 1B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach while presenting glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 5 years to further develop, Nicolas has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
