07/20/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Nicholas is a very talented player who works hard and seems to love playing the game. As a third baseman he fields out front, showed good footwork and body control. Areas that he can improve are playing low to high, continuing to increase lateral movement/agility and long tossing for arm strength. On the mound Nicholas displayed good overall mechanics, throws strikes and has a nice curveball. He needs to continue strengthening arm and develop change-up. At the plate Nicholas has an aggressive approach, quick hands and stays inside the ball well. He needs to shorten stance, keep front side closed more consistently and select better pitches.

05/18/2014 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Nicolas is a 2-way player (3B/RHP) who has an athletic build (5'5"/130). With the bat, this RHH shows good separation as he works back into a strong loaded position. He connect with the ball, drives the barrel to and through the zone and creates extension. At 3B, he shows good range to his glove side, making the plays smoothly. He has a clean exchange to throw and works in-line toward his target. On the bump, Soliz has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balanced point and drives off the rubber, in-line toward the dish. FB ranges from 61-63 mph while breaking ball has 12/6 shape. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
