04/30/2017 - College PREP - Fort Myers, FL Niels is a very talented (6'1"/190) pitching prospect. On the mound, Niels displayed his talents by lighting up the radar with a heavy 94 mph FB. He has a strong front side, stays balanced over the rubber, has a clean arm stroke, and rides his backside toward the plate. CB shows late action with sharp break and will be a swing and miss pitch. Changeup has great arm-side run, with drop and compliments his FB well. At the plate, Niels has rhythm in his hands, tracks the ball well and makes hard contact to his pull-side. Watch for this RHP to get his named called in this years draft.

11/30/2014 - National Tryout - Fort Myers, FL Stone has worked hard and molded himself into quite a prospect on the bump. On the mound, he utilizes his frame to work tall and stay on top driving downhill. FB cracks the mitt at 89 mph while showing late run. He can spot it up and work both sides of the dish. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape and compliments FB well. Changeup is deceptive as it drops off of the table. At 3B, Neils works into a low fielding position and fields the ball with sure hands. Exchange is quick/clean as he fires accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, this switch hitter shows similarly from both sides. He tracks the ball into the zone and waits for his pitch. Quick hands fires the barrel to and through the zone, resulting it line drives. Stone is an exciting prospect who has a ton of upside. He is surely one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Niels is a primary pitcher that shows a lot of upside on the mound. He has a big projectable body that works well on the mound. He has a repeatable delivery and gets good extension. His fastball has good life and he stays down in the zone. His curveball is a 11/5 shape with good tilt. Niels knows how to pitch and has a good idea of how to attack hitters. At the plate he has a smooth load, strong balance, and uses his lower half well. He has good timing and stays in the middle of the field with his approach. He is a very patient hitter and works the count in his favor seeing a lot of pitches. Niels should continue to develop on the mound and at the plate to become a nice player at the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
