Nolan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands-on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three-pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 55 mph. He maintains arm speed on changeup with sink. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.
02/29/2020 - Baseball Factory Mid-Atlantic Combined Skills Training - Columbia, MD (Ages 12-14)
Nolan is a 2026 catching prospect who showed well at the Mid-Atlantic Skills Training. He tracked the ball very well in the batter's box and had natural rhythm to his approach. He set up in a solid, square stance and did a good job of using the entire field. More lower half and better balance throughout will help the consistency of his hard contact. As a defender, Nolan showed instincts to go with good, short arm action behind the plate. He can improve his flexibility some and stick balls with stronger hands to help him on the receiving side. Overall, there is a good feel for the game with Nolan and it will be fun to watch him continue to develop.
