At the plate, he shows an athletic, open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 64 mph. Fastball showed a range of 63-64 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/14/2022 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training at Jackie Robinson Training Complex(Ages 12-14) Nolan is a high baseball IQ C/RHP in the class of 2026 out of Maxton, NC. Behind the dish, he does a good job of gaining ground on his throws to 2B while making clean exchanges. He has effective blocking fundamentals which help him keep the ball in front of him. At the plate, he uses a square stance with a straight stride to find balance. He works a rotational swing with good bat speed to hit the ball to all fields with flashes of gap to gap power. On the mound, he showed confidence in his 3 pitches of fastball, breaking ball and change up. His fastball worked up to 56 mph while his offspeed was around the plate consistently. Nolan could benefit from programs/drills such as towel pitching drill, bands, arm path, long toss, strength training, speed & agility.

02/29/2020 - Baseball Factory Mid-Atlantic Combined Skills Training - Columbia, MD (Ages 12-14) Nolan is a 2026 catching prospect who showed well at the Mid-Atlantic Skills Training. He tracked the ball very well in the batter's box and had natural rhythm to his approach. He set up in a solid, square stance and did a good job of using the entire field. More lower half and better balance throughout will help the consistency of his hard contact. As a defender, Nolan showed instincts to go with good, short arm action behind the plate. He can improve his flexibility some and stick balls with stronger hands to help him on the receiving side. Overall, there is a good feel for the game with Nolan and it will be fun to watch him continue to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
