12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Octavio shined once again at the event in Pirate City. Behind the plate, feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.19 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centers balls well out front, and is a wall behind dish. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a leader behind the plate.

08/26/2018 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Octavio is a lean, athletic C/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.22. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.13-2.19 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind plate. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Octavio has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
