06/16/2022 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (HS) Oscar is a 2024 SS/RHP prospect who showed well during the National World Series in Omaha. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth/athletic actions. Active feet as he works around balls and shows good body control. Fields from an athletic/low fielding position, with soft hands, and presents out front. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond and an arm velocity of 77mph. At the plate, he hits from a crouched and open stance with comfortable hands. A small/simple hand load and short stride as he hits into a firm front side. Showed some late bat whip as he hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 75mph during BP. At the event, he reached base several times. On the mound, he works exclusively from the stretch. Rides his back leg down the mound with clean arm action and showed ability to throw in. A 3-pitch pitcher who attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 71mph with arm side run, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball, and a developing changeup. In 2 innings of work, he induced soft contact and threw over 50% of his pitches for strikes. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect making huge strides on the baseball field.

12/05/2021 - All-In Membership - Chandler (Phoenix), AZ Oscar is a young, two way player who plays shortstop in right hand pitcher. Defensively, Oscar has fluid active feet, a low/athletic fielding position, and he moves with good agility to the ball. He presents his glove well, stays down throughout the fielding position, and throws across the diamond with accuracy and consistency. Defensive abilities can improve, with a quicker exchange and release, and not stabbing on the back hand. On the mound, Oscar has a simple delivery, and easy arm swing, and he repeats his delivery well. He gets good extension on his pitches, lands towards home with a proper length stride, and finishes in a complete position. Continuing to add arm strength, and not letting his arm drag, will help abilities on the mound become even better. Offensively, Oscar stands in the box with a tall approach, he has a short stride, and he swings the stick fluidly. He has good balance, stays inside the baseball, and makes consistent contact to all fields well. Continuing to add bat speed, physical strength, and more extension through the ball, will help offensive numbers improve with age.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
