10/10/2020 - Fall College Prospect Video + Evaluation Experience - PA (HS) Oscar continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved, now displaying excellent hitting abilities with near pro level power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, he presents a soft/sure mitt, sticking balls in the zone. He will benefit by utilizing his body more through the blocking process to center balls out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.02 with accuracy / carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws.

07/07/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Trenton, NJ Oscar is a strong/athletic R/R catcher who can swing it. At the plate, this RHH displays an athletic setup with rhythm to load. Hands are quick generating + bat speed as he stays through the ball well creating consistent/hard contact. The ball jumps when centered as he sprays the gaps (exit velocity = 88 mph). Behind the dish, he sits in athletically and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. He is quick laterally and works to center pitches in the dirt off of his chest, keeping the ball in front. Transfer is clean with accurate throws to 2B - pop times at 2.38. Vargas has a solid skill-set and has the tools that will translate well into the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
