11/06/2020 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Owen is a coachable OF/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Select Training & Competition in Arizona. In the field, Owen works light on his feet with a quick first step. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he makes accurate throws to his target. Keeping his elbow above his shoulder when throwing can help Owen make stronger throws. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He works through a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and strong line drives. Owen can barrel up more baseballs by taking a shorter swing. On the mound, Owen is controlled gathering to his balance point and separates his hands on time. He works inline toward the plate and keeps his pitches around the zone. Owen's fastball tops out at 55mph with tailing action. Long tossing can help Owen build up his arm strength. With six more years to develop, Owen has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

02/16/2020 - Interactive Video Program - Highland Park (DFW), TX Owen once again showed improvements in his game during his last workout in Texas. His arm strength continues to improve as well as hitting skills. In the OF, Owen has fluid/active feet, a presentable glove, and he fields athletically. He has good pre-pitch actions, he plays through the ball well, and throws with consistency and to his target. On the mound, this RHP has an athletic presence, a clean arm circle, and he separates his hands on time. He has a simple delivery, good direction, and he increased his FB to 54 MPH. At the plate, Owen improved hitting and power grades to 30 and 28. He has an athletic stance, good balance, and he swings in good rhythm. He makes level/consistent contact, and hits well gap to gap. Continued work on the following will help skills continue to get better.

01/17/2020 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Owen showed a spike in arm velocity to 53 MPH, exit velocity to 54 MPH, and a rise in hitting grades during his last workout in Arizona. In the OF, Owen gets in an athletic ready position, he has a good 1st step, and he works behind fly balls well. He uses 2 hands to catch, gathers himself well, and throws with an accurate arm to his cut off man. On the mound, Owen shows good confidence, a loose arm, and solid balance. He works out of the stretch, he keeps his eyes on target, and his FB topped out at 50 MPH. Offensively, Owen keeps a still head, he stands in with a closed stance, and he has an activated load. He hits from a firm front side, gets the bat through the zone, and he puts the bat on the ball consistently.

10/20/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Conroe (Houston), TX Owen is a young, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. Defensively, Owen has a tall/square stance, a short stride, and he loads his hands well. He has good balance, swings in good rhythm, and he makes square contact to all fields. On the mound, Owen has good balance, a clean arm circle, and a repeatable delivery. He separates his hands on time, gets good extension, and finishes in a complete position. Offensively, Owen has a tall stance, he swings aggressively, and he makes square contact. He loads his hands well, shows the ability to spray to all fields, and he uses his lower body. Owen can continue to improve skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
