01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Owen is a very advanced 2018 Catcher. Behind the plate, this Nebraskan has a cannon and has the ability to throw out most runners (1.87s release time). Does all of the things catchers need to do well and with ease. Receives well, has a quite stance, tracks the ball and has the ability to change the game. His blocking is advanced, deadening the ball well and controlling rebounds. As advanced as he his behind the plate, he also projects well offensively. Very athletic at the plate, has very good balance, explodes his hips and works with great rhythm. Drives the ball to all fields and is a nice gap to gap hitter. Expect big things from Owen moving forward into the higher levels.

01/21/2017 - College PREP - Omaha, NE Owen continues to show as a prospect on the diamond and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he improved his power abilities, now showing tremendous potential through an open athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he utilizes his lower half well with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.94. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target, displaying outstanding arm strength. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he is a wall behind the dish. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Owen will get looks from the top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his baseball abilities.

01/18/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Omaha, NE Owen continues to show a promising future on the diamond. He continues to show improvements and progress in his game. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his best time to date at 2.07. Arm strength has improved as well as indicated by his 84 mph velocity with throws displaying accuracy and on line carry through his target. Receiving / blocking skills continue to show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hands are direct and work inside the ball as he utilizes the middle of the field well. He shows an aggressive swing path with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. With 3 years to further develop, Owen is a sure player to follow.

12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Richter continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, showing as a catcher at the event. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.16. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as tools that will play at the next level as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a short / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a tough kid, very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/03/2014 - National Tryout - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Owen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting grades with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.22. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills are outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. A 2016 graduate, Owen has plus tools that will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Owen is a young player who is very coachable and shows solid fundamentals. Behind the plate, he shows the pitcher a good target and has soft hands receiving the ball. He also blocks very well due to his agile/effective footwork. He can work on strengthening his arm and being as loud as possible to command the entire field. At the plate, Owen has a good set up and does a good job of getting loaded. He gets his lower half through the ball well to help him drive the baseball. His swing is short and on-plane through the zone and he does a good job of throwing the bat head. He can work on striding towards the mound and not closing off his front side too much. He can also work on keeping his balance upright and not getting too much lean over the plate. On the mound, he has a good loose arm action and gets good extension. He has a tall balance point and good tempo. He gets into trouble when he tries to overthrow. His front side opens too early and his motion gets jerky which actually decreases velocity. Stay smooth and let the mechanics do the work. Overall, Owen is a solid leader behind the plate and brings a positive energy to the team.

03/09/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Kenosha, WI Owen is an average sized, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Owen has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he moves well to the ball. On the mound, Owen has a smooth delivery, good direction toward home, and he finishes completely. Offensively, Owen has an open stance, a short stride, and he makes square contact. He swings aggressively and shows a middle of the field approach. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
