Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • Position Projection

09/24/2017 - National Tryout - Scranton, PA Owen continues to work hard and improve his game at C/RHP. Behind the plate, he sits in a low/athletic stance with fluid footwork. He receives pitches with soft hands and has a quick transfer to throw. Increasing arm velocity (long toss program) will help Owen gun out more runners at the next level. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber with a 3-pitch mix. He delivers from a 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action and pounds the zone with strikes. Using more of his lower 1/2 will increase his arm velocity. At the plate, Owen is a switch hitter. He has smooth rhythm and drives pitches from gap to gap. This 2022-grad is a gamer and will be a player to watch.

11/12/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Owen is a very coachable player who works very hard on his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well presenting a low target and receiving with a soft mitt. Exchange is smooth as he gains ground toward 2B - pop times of 2.42. He is a vocal leader on the field and takes charge of his team. With the bat, Owen currently shows more natural from the right side. He has rhythm in his hands, barrels the ball up and drives it back up the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Increased strength will also come as he physically matures. On the mound, Stewart remains composed and pounds the zone with strikes. Separation is smooth as he repeats well. FB now tops at 58 mph. He finishes complete and fields the position well, showing his athleticism. A 2022 grad - Owen has the makeup of a player that is determined to work hard to get to where he wants to be.

09/27/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Scranton, PA Owen is a young (2022 grad) switch hitting, 2-way player as a C/RHP. Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks pitches into his mitt. He has active footwork and moves well to his right and left to body-up pitches in the dirt. Offensively, Owen has an aggressive approach and is looking to swing it. He takes a hack at pitches in the zone, connecting and hitting line-drives. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on the target and drives off the rubber, putting all he has into the throw. FB ranges from 55-57 mph while cutter shows 9/3 shape with 'slider' like action. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Catching
1. Lower target
2. Transfer/exchange
3. Gain ground toward 2B
Offense
1. Load
2. Swing path
3. Lower 1/2 drive
Pitching

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
