01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Alex continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm (85 mph velocity) with impressive pop times of 1.93. Offensively, he continues to shine through an open setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion (87mph exit velocity) with the ball screaming off of his barrel. He is aggressive as he attacks fastball early in the count.

07/04/2020 - Baseball Factory Firecracker Classic 18U Sosa continues to show well on the diamond and did so again during his time at the Firecracker Classic. He is a vocal leader who takes charge and communicates well with his pitchers. Behind the dish, he is quick laterally and centers pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag with pop times still in the low 2's. As a hitter, he has good zone awareness with patience - drawing 4 walks. Hands are quick generating + bat speed as he connects and hits line-drives to all parts of the field - 4 singles at the event. Alex is a coachable athlete who has a ton of upside as he approaches his sophomore year.

01/05/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Jacksonville, FL Alex continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has the makings of a special type player. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.03. He gets rid of the baseball through a quick transfer / exchange with accuracy on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering the ball out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well. At 2B, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, hitting abilities are now outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Alex is a strong, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.22 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play at the next level as he continues to develop and get more reps. Blocking skills show potential as being outstanding as he is a wall behind the plate. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared with balance setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, showing a feel for the barrel and uses the middle of the field well. At the event he was 1 for 3. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and good instincts with plays with a lot of energy. With 4 years to further develop, Alex has the makings of a special type player as he continues to develop and progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
