Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Parker is a 3B/RHP with a solid skill set. He showed well in AZ at both spots. At the plate he has a short, quick repeatable stroke that allows him to see the ball long and catch up to velocity. He centers the ball well and has a natural line drive stroke. As a defender Parker puts himself into good fielding position and shows dependable hands. His throws across the diamond have carry and are accurate. On the mound Parker is a 2-pitch guy with a low 80s fastball and solid curve ball. He is under control in his delivery, gathering well over the rubber and showing good direction to the hitter. He competes well and has a feel for how to attack hitters. He can contribute both on the mound and as a position player at the next level.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Glendora, CA Parker is a tall/mature/athletic 2014 graduate who has excellent arm strength (84 mph) and good speed as well (7.09 60/yd). As a first baseman his body projects very well; he presents a big target, moves around well for a big guy and his footwork around the base is solid. Working on agility drills will help him to move his fielding to the next level. At the plate, Parker has a quiet/simple approach; good lower half, extension and hands. He will increase the power number if he finishes aggressively. Parker has a big upside; he has a good build, and good speed.

07/29/2013 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Parker showed as a 1B/RHP at the event. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level where he has improved. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting and power grades. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the baseball, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Defensive grades are now outstanding as he uses his athletic feet well in squaring up ground balls and, while presenting his soft / sure hands well out front. Foot work around the bag is a plus and he is a quality receiver. He works to get rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy across the diamond. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-8 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with slight break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Off speed pitches show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.

05/19/2013 - College PREP - Salem, OR Parker is a solid, athletic 1B/RHP with a strong lower half that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he projects better at 1B for the next level. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.19 60 time. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft, clean and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Nielson shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs, displaying 12/6 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Parker has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
