Patrick is an 2017 RHP/2B with a tall, thin frame (6'3 160) with room to fill. On the mound Patrick shows loose, easy actions as he gathers over the rubber. He maintains good balance as he works downhill on the mound. Releasing from a high 3/4 arm slot he has good command of all 3 pitches, with his FB ranging 75-77MPH. CB sits from 63-66MPH with 11/5 shape and medium depth. Lastly his Change-up has a free and easy stroke with good deception and sink sitting 64-66MPH. In the infield, Patrick's low center gravity really allows for him to work laterally and adjust to hops well when needed. His arm plays well in the field with clean repeatable exchanges and good accuracy. At the plate, he stands tall creating direct, flat bat path. He has good balance and works to hit against a firm front side which allows Patrick to spray the ball line to line. Overall this 2017 grad shows upside both on the mound and in the field with potential to contribute at the next level.

Patrick is an athletic 2-way player who continues to develop. On the mound, he has smooth separation, stays directional and repeats his delivery well. FB tops out at 75 mph while showing some tailing action. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with good action. Changeup shows to be best off-speed pitch with good run as he throws it with FB arm speed. He works to keep it down in the zone which will result in GB outs. At 2B - he has active prep moving well on the balls of his feet. He makes the plays with soft/sure hands and has a smooth transfer to throw. Offensively, this righty shows a square/balanced setup with rhythm to load. He barrels the ball up consistently and drives the middle of the field. Added power will come as he works to engage his full lower 1/2 . Patrick has tools with upside as he enters his junior season of play.
01/25/2015 - National Tryout - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI
Makana continues to show improvement in his game. He bumped his velo up to 72, ran an all time best 60 at 7.5, and improved on his pitching abilities. On the bump, Makana showed repeatable mechanics with a deceptive delivery, making it tough for hitters to pick up his pitches. He works down in the zone with all pitches, making it challenging for the hitters to hit the "mistake". Offensively, he continues to track the ball well, seeing it deep into the zone. He remains short to the ball with loose hands and some balance/leg strength. Makana is a ball player with time on his side as he enters his sophomore season.
08/17/2014 - National Tryout - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI
Makana continues to show as a RHP/2B but currently projects best at 2B where he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, defensive grade are now slightly above average as he displays clean / smooth actions. He moves well laterally, flashing range and is aggressive with his feet. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he showed a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will improve as he builds more arm strength, throw more strikes, and develops better off speed stuff.
01/26/2014 - National Tryout - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI
Fo continued to show as RHP/2B at the event but currently projects best at 2B for the next level where he has improved some baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to improve, he needs to work to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to us his lower half more. At 2B, feet are active as he works to square balls up and displays clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more, play through while presenting hands more out front. On the mound, fastball showed on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball shows flat break as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch more. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as builds more arm strength through a long toss program.
11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18)
Makana is a freshman 2B/RHP that has a good approach on ground balls. He focused throughout his most recent Baseball Factory event on his low fielding position and his transfer. Continuous reps and live reads in BP will help to enhance his fielding ability. Offensively, he hit from a square stance with good timing and a level barrel. Makana needs to gain general strength, which he will do as he ages, in order to improve on his sound hitting mechanics. On the bump, he throws will a clean delivery and arm action. Using his lower half will help to add to his much needed velocity. Overall - Fo Makana has years to improve his game and strengthen his body.
08/11/2013 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI
Makana is a 2-way player as a RHP/OF. On the bump, this RHP delivers a 3-pitch mix from an over the top arm slot. He gets good glove side lead and has smooth separation. FB shows cut and late action while CB shows 10/4 shape. Finishing out over his front side will help to improve command. In the OF, Makana is aggressive and comes to get the ball. He covers a lot of ground, works well to get behind the ball and plays through the ball toward his target. At the plate, this righty lets the ball travel and keeps his weight back. He maintains good balance and throws his hands, squaring the ball up consistently. As a 2017 grad, Fo is young and still has a lot of time to improve his game.
