01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Patrick is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way prospect that continues to improve each event. At 3B, Patrick is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and fields the ball in front of his body. On double plays, Patrick has efficient footwork off the bag and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Patrick starts in an open stance and has loose hands. He's on time for the fastball, creates backside rotation with his lower half, and keeps the barrel flat to the ball. In game, he showed discipline at the plate with 4 BB and had a pull side approach. On the bump, Patrick works hard and he features 3 pitches. His fastball has tail, his curveball has a medium 11-5 break, and he has some feel for the changeup. Patrick was eager to learn and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Patrick's huge arm and huge power will have scouts for the next level knocking down his door. He reaches 88mph on the gun and has the perfect arm for third, easily making long throws with plenty of carry. He is athletic with quick hands to field and get in front of the ball to keep it in front. His strength in his hands and lower half generate big power and a fast bat through the zone. He works to the ball quickly and gets extension through square contact to drive the ball deep. Patrick will make noise as a can't miss prospect for the next level.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Patrick showed athleticism and the ability to play multiple positions. Currently he projects well on the mound showing confidence and the ability to control the game. Coyne has a solid 3 pitch mix with good cut to his FB that ranges between 75-80MPH. His delivery is balanced through out with a clean glove side. He can continue to focus on making sure he finishes his pitches to make sure he locates lower in the zone. Defensively, Coyne works from right to left with good momentum on his throws. His hands are sure but he tends to present his glove late and deep. Working on setting up earlier will help with this. Offensively, Patrick has quick hands and feel for the barrel. His load is activated with an aggressive approach. A smoother lighter load will help with control through his swing. Overall, Patrick has shown that he is a special player and will continue to improve as he physically matures through high school.

12/13/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Madison (NYC), NJ This versatile 2-way player continues to show well on the diamond. On the mound, Patrick repeats his delivery well and pounds the zone with strikes. He stays tall and drives downhill in-line toward the dish. He works to keep the ball down in the zone, which will result in GB outs. FB has cut and is a tough pitch for hitters to square up. At 3B - Patrick shows active footwork and hustles into a square fielding position. Transfer from glove to hand is smooth with accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, he steps into the box with a purpose and a very aggressive approach. He whips the barrel with plus bat speed, connects and drives the ball with pop. Coyne has upside and will make things happen in this only his freshman year.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Patrick is a very coachable player who works hard day in and day out. Offensively, this RHH shows a balanced/athletic setup with a solid base. He has rhythm in his hands and works back into a loaded position. Swing is level with speed as the ball jumps off of his bat when centered (exit velocity = 85 mph). He battles at the plate and barrels the ball up consistently. At 3B, he works into a square fielding position and tracks the ball into a soft mitt. He gathers well and has a smooth transfer/exchange to throw. Playing through the ball more will help to get more into his throws. On the mound, Patrick challenges hitters pounding the zone with strikes consisnelty. FB now ranges from 76-78 mph while showing some run. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with late action and tight spin - proving to be a solid 'K' pitch. He gets strong glove-side lead, stays directional and repeats his delivery well. Coyne is a versatile athlete who has tools that will provide success on the diamond. We look forward to seeing him progress over the next few years.

08/18/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Patrick is a talented 2-way player as a RHP/3B. On the mound, this righty has an effective 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on the target and repeats well. FB ranges from 73-78 mph with slight arm-side run. He fills up the zone and throws it for strikes consistently. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual action complimenting his FB well. As a hitter - this righty shows a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. He delivers the barrel with speed and connects, pulling the inside pitch with pop. At 3B, Patrick shows active footwork as he hustles into a square fielding position. He funnels smoothly and gains ground toward 1B. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

1. Arm action
2. More lower 1/2 drive
Offense
1. Contact points
2. Upper/lower 1/2 stay connected
Defense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
