Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHPPosition Projection

03/15/2015 - National Tryout - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Patrick continues to work hard on his game. This LHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a loose arm action. He remains compact throughout his delivery with good glove side lead and glove tuck. FB shows tail while his changeup has slight run. He finishes complete in a square fielding position. Continuing to work on increasing his arm strength (long toss) will help to raise velocities and raise he stock on the mound. Developing a more consistent release point on all of his pitches will allow for improved command/control. A 2106 grad - Patrick is a few adjustments away from unlocking his potential on the mound.

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Patrick is a young, coachable player who pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Patrick has a good / clean delivery, he keeps hitters off balance, and he mixes his off-speed in well. He has a free arm action, separates on-time, and he finishes in a complete position. Mound effectiveness will further improve if Patrick can strengthen his arm and continue to get stronger. At 1st base, Patrick gets in a good ready position, he moves well to the ball, and he keeps it in front. He has proper footwork and can pick the ball out of the dirt. Added flexibility, fielding further out front, and adding arm strength will help defense get better. Offensively, Patrick has a square set-up, he can hit to the opposite field, and he flashes decent bat speed. He has an activated load, good barrel accuracy, and he runs the bases well. If Patrick can soften his stride, use more lower 1/2, and let the ball travel, hitting will further spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
