Official Scouting Report

09/16/2018 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Paul is an athletic and strong 2020 2-way player. At the hot corner, Paul in on time with his prep step, anticipates the ball off the bat, and presents a low/early glove. He plays through the backhand, and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Paul starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and keeps his head down at contact. He shows gap to gap power, and stays balanced throughout the swing. On the bump, Paul gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a clean arm stroke. He has a heavy fastball, and a big breaking ball. Paul will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Paul's versatility and skills will make him a contributor for any team he plays on. He shows off his athleticism at the hot corner with quick twitch actions to pick hard hit balls and make plays at first. He fields square to the ball with firm hands and shows off an accurate arm with plenty of strength across the diamond. He keeps it simple at the plate with a strong load and on time stride to launch a level swing. He has rhythm and balance throughout with an incorporated lower half and makes square contact to all fields. On the bump, he shows deception in his delivery and worked quickly to keep hitters off balance. He works his mid 70's fastball with cut to both sides of the plate and his curveball flashes with 10-4 break. Paul has a lot to like and will be a prospect to watch moving forward.

07/24/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Paul is an athletic, hard-working kid with a very projectable body on the mound and at the plate. He has a great feel for hitting already with easy power in his big swing. He has athletic actions at the plate with smooth rhythm. His hands and strong lower half lead to a very fast bat through the zone with a direct path to the ball, resulting in consistent, hard contact in his at bats. On the mound, Paul Attacks hitters with a repeatable delivery and is able to locate to both sides of the plate. He has a free, clean arm stroke and stays directional toward the plate with good extension that leads to good finish on his pitches. Throwing his breaking ball with the same arm speed as his fastball will give him a true out pitch he can put hitters away with. Paul is an exciting two-way prospect who we expect to be a good player at the next level.

11/12/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Paul continues to show improvement each time we get an opportunity to see him. Most recently his foot speed has improved; recording his best 60 time at 7.5. At the plate, he displayed power potential with a stronger finish in his lower body. Controlling his tempo and rhythm during his load will increase his overall hitting grades. Defensively, he remained aggressive to the ball keeping his body in front. Maintaining a flat back in his fielding position will help position his hands further out in front. On the mound, Paul continued the ability to attack the zone and stay balanced throughout his delivery. From the stretch his focus needs to be more north to south making sure he finishes closed and towards his target.

06/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series Durrell showed very well during his time at the CWS Training Event. Offensively, he stands in tall while getting good hand separation. Barrel delivery is quick with bat speed as he connects and hit multiple, hard line-drives to all parts of the field. More lower 1/2 drive will help to tap into his power potential. He is coachable and makes adjustments well. At 3B, he is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He fields it cleanly and gains ground toward his target at 1B. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid the in-between hop. When Paul gets on the mound, he means business. He works through quick tempo keeping hitters off balance. He pounds the zone with strikes, attacking hitters and looks to get outs quickly. FB now ranges from 64-66 mph as he can hit his spots. Only a 2020 grad - Paul has the build and the skills to make things happen on the diamond.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex Paul is a hard worker who continues to progress his skill-set. On the mound, this RHP maintains fluid tempo with solid all-around mechanics. He works ahead in the count, throwing strikes, and working the ball to both sides of the plate. He maintains his composure on the mound and gives his team a chance. More glove side lead and finishing with extension on his follow through will help his abilities on the bump to continue to improve. With the bat, this RHH has a tall setup with simple/quiet actions. He has rhythm, swings on a level path and extends through his finish. Working to let the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone and utilizing his lower 1/2 more throughout the swing will improve his abilities at the plate. At 3B, Durell works to keep the GB in front and tracks it into his mitt. He has a clean exchange to throw and works in-line toward 1B. Coming to get the ball and playing through it more will help him to grow as a defender. Paul is a coachable player who (only a 2020 grad) has a lot of time to develop.

07/20/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Paul is a young/2020 graduate who is a RHP/3B. On the mound he has a short/compact delivery, stays in-line to target and tucks glove side well. He needs to drive the lower half through target, get chest out over stride leg and long toss for arm strength. As a fielder Paul does a nice job on routine plays, footwork is solid and he is accurate to the target. He needs to improve pre-pitch position, lateral quickness/agility and keep body in an athletic fielding position. At the plate Paul displayed a good setup, balance and a basic overall swing but needs to improve his top hand. Also Paul should work on developing a smoother stride/load and his pitch selection needs to be more disciplined.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Paul continues to show consistency in his overall abilities. Defensively, Paul displayed athletic ability but will need to be more aggressive with his overall approach. His hands are soft, and by creating a better angle to the ball he will get into a more efficient fielding position. On the mound, Paul has a deceptive delivery hiding the ball well. He showed good glove side lead and a strong finish with his backside. Paul shows good control and will gain more velocity as he works on keeping his front side square to his target, he has the tendency to open up early. Offensively, Paul shows good rotation of his lower half through contact. His stride is soft with good head positioning. He will need to work on having better separation making sure his hands get back and front food lands before the ball enters the hitting zone. Overall, Paul showed abilities with room for improvement as he physically matures.

09/14/2013 - Pitcher/Catcher Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Paul is an athletic pitcher with a short/quick arm action. He displays a controlled balance point, level shoulders, good direction to the plate, and a complete finish. His curveball has a 10/4 gradual break with good arm speed. Paul is able to locate both pitches for strikes, keeping hitters off balance. Getting a better push with his back side will help him lengthen his stride and increase velocity. Also, he needs to continue to develop his off speed pitches and get them more consistent. Paul is a hard worker and has a good upside in the future.

08/31/2013 - Little League® Experience - Central Regional (Indianapolis, IN) Paul is a 2020 graduate who plays SS and RHP. Paul has better than average arm strength and he is accurate to the target. As a fielder Paul has good hands, decent footwork and he covers decent ground. Improvement can be made by getting outside the ball and playing through more. On the mound Paul showed a good balance point and he stays in-line to the target. He throws strikes, fastball has run/down movement and the changeup has arm side run as well. Paul needs to keep his front side closed longer and use his lower half. At the plate he has an athletic setup and an aggressive/middle approach. Paul needs to develop an efficient stride/load, use the lower half more and shorten/level the swing path.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
