He showed good strike zone awareness and with more rhythm/fluidity will improve feel to hit. Behind the plate, Paul presents a low target, moves well laterally and recovers balls in the dirt very well. A structured long toss program will help increase his arm strength and more relaxed hands will allow Paul to be able to get around pitches better - enabling him to keep more balls in the strike zone. 02/22/2014 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Paul is a coachable and fantastic kid, this allowed him to make great adjustments during the weekend. Paul is a very strong kid who shows a ton of raw potential as a hitter, and he will only improve as he matures. Paul tends to get stiff during the swing, when the muscles are stiff and tight they are also slower. When the he does get tight his lower half tends to get anchored, and also his hands tend to get slower, which all leads to slower bat speed. We also worked on flattening his bat during the weekend, he tends to start his bat too vertical in the stance, this will lead to him having to drop the barrel to get it into the hitting zone.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex (Ages 12-14) Paul is a young, solid ball player who is very smart and a good teammate. Behind the plate, Paul has already improved immensely, shows a high baseball IQ, blocks well, and can handle pitchers positively. If he can shorten his arm action, work on his release and his lateral quickness to block better he can improve as a catcher. Offensively, Paul shows power potential, good bat speed, and is a very disciplined hitter. He needs to use his lower half a bit more, level out his hands, and swing more aggressively. Paul is a "gamer" type player who continues to work hard to improve his abilities.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Paul is an athletic young Catcher and RHP. He is a polite and is very attentive and continues to learn and improve. As a Catcher, he is athletic and moves well. He works very hard behind the plate and keeps improving his receiving and throwing motion. At the plate he has a square setup, quick hands and good barrel accuracy. Paul will need to continue to improve his balance; load and involving his lower half in his swing. On the mound, Paul maintains a good rhythm and has a balanced delivery and will only get better as his arm action and finish improves.

08/03/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Cleveland, OH Paul is a 2-way player as a C/RHP who has a strong lower 1/2. Offensively, he shows a quiet setup and middle of the field approach. He maintains active footwork and protects the 5-hole well. On the bump, this righty shows a 3-pitch mix coming from an over the top arm slot. He maintains good tempo, gets to a controlled balance point and throws strikes with all of his pitches. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following:

Catching
1. Arm strength
2. Quicker exchange
Pitching
1. Lead arm
2. Extension out front
Offense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
