07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Paulo is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect. At SS, Paulo has an active prep step and presents a low/early glove. He works from the ground up, funnels the ball into his body, and has a clean exchange. Continuing to be on time with his pre-pitch movement will allow him to get a quicker first step to the ball. At the plate, Paulo starts in a closed stance and creates rhythm in his hands. He hits off a firm front side and doesn't give away at bats. Continuing to load his hands back into the drive position and getting his front foot down on time will allow him to see the ball out of the pitcher's hand longer. On the bump, Paulo gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru contact. He rotates toward his target and has sink on his 2-seam fastball. Paulo plays the game hard and is eager to learn. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/15/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Tucson, AZ Paulo is a young, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and RHP. Defensively, Paulo has quick feet to the ball, he fields in a square position, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. He has a quick exchange, and a short/accurate arm with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Paulo stands over the rubber well, he has a clean arm action, and he keeps his eyes on target. Offensively, Paulo has an athletic set-up, good balance, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He has a firm front side and puts the ball in play consistently. Paulo can improve skills by working on the following.

1. Fielding position
2. Release
1. Balance
2. Direction
3. Arm strength
1. Load
2. Shorten swing
3. Rhythm/timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
