05/28/2020 - 2020 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Payton showed well at the South Showcase event in GA. His measureables are strong across the board including a 92 mph exit velocity and 90 mph raw arm strength. He is a dependable defender at SS with very sure hands and active feet that put him into position to make plays. At the plate, he has quick hands and generates very good bat speed. He battles in every at bat and looks to be a productive line drive guy at the next level.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Payton is a top prospect who has a tremendous upside on the diamond. At the plate, he has a strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack, crushing the ball with gap-to-gap pop (exit velocity = 91 mph). At SS, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws (91 mph velocity) zipping across the diamond. On the mound, this righty has a 3 pitch arsenal in which he keeps hitters guessing. FB showed in the 87 mph range and jumps out of his hand. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He works tall and drives downhill, repeating well. With 2 years to further develop, Allen has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a 2 way guy.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Payton is a talented two-way player who showed well during his time at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. On the mound is where Payton performed the best, striking out seven batters in three innings of work. He has a clean delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose, clean arm action and extends through on his release, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Payton shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 87mph. Breaking ball sits from 69-73mph with sharp 12-6 break. In the field, Payton shows efficient footwork and is very agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate and on-line across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and maintains center balance. He is smooth getting into his load and finishes with a firm front side in his lower half. He takes a short swing with fast bat speed which leads to square contact, driving the ball well to the opposite field. Payton is a very talented, young prospect who will be a player to watch closely over the next few years.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Payton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the MIF, defensive abilities have improved as well as he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds/turn of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields well through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he adds overall body strength. On the mound, he displays a sound/repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose/free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Payton has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

12/04/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Crowley, TX Payton is an athletic, 2-way player at the SS/RHP position. At SS, he gets into an athletic/low fielding position as he fields GB's. He creates solid angles to his GS with a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this righty stands on the mound with energy and tempo. He pounds his FB for strikes and commands a CH that stays low in the zone. With the bat, Payton gets into a loaded position. He explodes his lower 1/2 through the zone quickly as he drives pitches with pop. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. More range
2. Quicker release
3. Short arm action
Pitching
1. Develop CB
2. Stay relaxed
3. Finish strong
Offense
1. Athletic setup
2. Stay inside the ball

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
