ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

05/20/2018 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Pedro continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At SS, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a high arm slot. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Pedro is an athletic two-way prospect who competes hard and has lots of upside. He shows natural instincts at the plate with a good feel for the strike zone and a plan going into every at-bat. He has an athletic setup and loads to a powerful bat angle, keeping his balance centered throughout his swing. His bat gets on plane early and stays level to the ball to make square contact and hit line drives to all fields. At short, he is aggressive working to the ball and is reliable, making all of the routine plays, a hallmark of a good middle infielder. His hands are firm and he fields square to the ball to keep everything in front and he works to get through the ball and gain momentum to his target to throw. On the mound, he shows the poise to work through trouble and stay aggressive when attacking hitters. His fastball sits in the low to mid 70's with sinking action from a 3/4 arm slot that he uses to pitch ahead in the count. Staying on top of the ball will lead to more command and keep his arm healthy and loose throughout his outings. Pedro is a projectable prospect who we think has the work ethic and attitude to reach his potential.

10/30/2016 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Pedro is a lean 2019 two-way prospect at SS and RHP who is currently more advanced as a shortstop. His arm plays well at short as he makes strong, accurate throws across the diamond as well as quick, on target DP feeds. On the bump, this right hander features three pitches, working off his fastball that he commands well to both sides of the plate. He works in line to the plate, extending towards home to make his ball jump on hitters with a smooth and repeatable delivery. Keeping his elbow up throughout his motion will allow his arm action to be looser and get more arm whip through his finish, leading to an increase in velocity and movement. At short, he shows active feet working to the ball with extended range to both sides of his body, with soft hands to field. He surrounds the ball and plays through to gain momentum to his target, throwing with online carry. His setup at the plate is square with fluid actions and a patient approach. He does a good job staying inside the ball with a direct bat path to use all fields effectively. We look forward to watching Pedro's continued progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
