06/09/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Pepper is a strong OF/2B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the OF, Pepper shows fluid footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. At 2B, Pepper shows active footwork and fields in a square position. He throws with a short arm action and keeps his throws accurate to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He works to barrel up the baseball and produces consistent line drives. Overall, Pepper is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

01/21/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Jackson, MS Pepper is a strong and stocky 2021 OF/SS prospect. In the OF, Pepper is aggressive to the ball and reads the ball off the bat well. Continuing to work behind the ball will allow him to get into a good throwing position after the play. At SS, Pepper plays through the slow roller and throws from multiple arm slots. An active prep step and working from the ground up will allow him to make the routine play more consistently. At the plate, Pepper has quick hands and hits the ball to all fields. Continuing to have a simple stance and using the lower half will allow Pepper to drive the ball to all fields. Pepper will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/23/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Butler continues to show a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/09/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Pepper is a lean, athletic SS/OF. Defensively at SS, he takes an active 1st step as he fields GB's with lateral range. He takes a solid/quick angle on slow rollers with smooth DP feeds. In the OF, he takes smart lateral angles as he works behind the fly ball. He fields GB's in an athletic position and comes up with a clean exchange to throw. At the plate, Pepper sets up square in the box. He fires his hands quickly to the ball as he drives pitches on a line to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Lateral footwork
2. Develop soft hands/glove
3. Quicker exchange to throw
Outfield
1. Play through the ball
2. More accurate throws
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Develop rhythm
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
