03/21/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jose, CA Philbert is a 2021 SS/RHP. Medium frame with an athletic build and plenty of room to mature physically. Primary SS, scrappy player who shows good fundamentals in the infield. Quick/active feet who has good range to either side. Showed good glove angles both on glove side and back hand. Feel for adjusting his hands to the ball and shows a quick release getting the ball across the diamond on time. Throws from multiple arm angles with accurate/online throws across the diamond at 82mph. Good touch on his flip/follow DP feed and clean exchange on his DP pivot. Secondary right-handed pitcher, works a compact motion who showed ability to repeat his delivery. Picks up target early as he rotates lower half down the mound. Throws 3 pitches from a 3/4 arm slot. FB was up to 75mph with some tailing action. 11/5 curveball that he throws for strikes and a changeup with FB arm speed. Throws all 3 pitches from the same window. Right-handed hitter, sets up with a square and upright stance. Gets rotational to the contact point and makes consistent contact. Quick hands and good extension allow him to spray line drives to all fields. Continued growth and development will bode well for his opportunities at the next level.

12/11/2020 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament Philbert continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a clean/loose arm action. He gets strong glove-side lead and stays directional toward the dish. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. FB ranges from 78-82 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is outstanding as he pounds the zone and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
