08/03/2021 - All-In Membership - Irvine (Los Angeles), CA Philip showed as a catcher for the first time at the event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times showed in 2.27 range with accuracy / carry (81 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

12/09/2018 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Phillip continues to show a promising future on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range increasing as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 71 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
