08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Philip is a hardworking 1B/RHP prospect who has a tall, projectable build and graduates in 2018. As a right-handed hitter, Philip has a tall setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He takes an open stride and partially uses his lower throughout his swing. Philip has a long, upward swing path. He shows solid contact to the pull side. In the field, Philip plays the game hard and works to make the routine plays. He is developing smoother footwork and better body control. He fields the ball in a high position with his hands deep. Philip has a long arm action and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. On the mound, Philip has a strong mound presence and pitches with good rhythm. He has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Philip lands open to home plate with the proper stride length and a controlled landing. His fastball has tail action at 79-80 MPH. He also has good feel for his changeup and shows a medium breaking curveball. Overall, Philip is a versatile skill set and good approach giving him potential to advance his game with development.

05/14/2017 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Philip is a lean, lanky 1B/C who will graduate in 2018. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.96. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target and he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range 2.03-2.19 with accuracy / carry to his throws. Hands are firm as he presents a low target well out front, and tracks balls in. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down quicker and cover holes. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft /sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally, covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows a tall setup with balance. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Philip has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
