Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/19/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Highland Park (DFW), TX Philip is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame athletic build with strength present. At SS, showed active feet and good agility. Showed good range to both the glove side and backhand side. Creates good fielding angles as he fields from a square fielding position and fields it out front. Short/loose arm action, with a high 3/4 release point, and accurate/on-line throws across the diamond. Showed good bag awareness and a 2-hand exchange on DP pivots. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. Some deception to his delivery and throws all of his pitches with intent. CB is a good compliment to FB. Throws a FB that sits 75-81mph with some sink, an 11/5 breaking ball that flashes depth, and a developing changeup with some arm side run. A left-handed hitter, he hits from a square and upright stance. Showed good rhythm to swing, with activated hands, and an opposite field approach. Squared up balls into both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 83mph during BP. With continued growth and development, we see him having a bright future on the baseball field.

12/20/2020 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Philip continues to shine on the diamond. At SS, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 8 with a 3B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-77 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

10/11/2020 - All-In Membership - Frisco (DFW), TX Philip is a projectable (6'1"/160) L/R 2-way player as a SS/RHP. With the bat, this lefty shows a tall stance with centered balance and active hands. He jumps on pitches he likes, barrels the ball up and creates good extension through contact (exit velocity = 83 mph). At SS, he has active pre-pitch movement taking good angles and working fluidly right to left. Hands are soft as he gathers well and makes accurate throws across the diamond. On the mound, this RHP has an effective 3-pitch arsenal in which to challenge hitters. FB tops out at 80 mph as he works it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with tight spin. Changeup has slight tailing action as he throws it for strikes consistently - 70-72 mph. Philip is a talented 2-way prospect who has upside on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
