06/29/2016 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Phillip continues to show improvements in his baseball tools with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.28. At SS, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are quick as he moves well laterally, displaying range. He plays through balls and presents glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 4 for 9 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball shows in the high 70 range with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a can do work ethic that will allow him to continue developing.

04/10/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Waterford Township (Detroit), MI Phillip continues to show a promising future on the diamond. He showed as a SS/RHP but projects best at SS for the next level. Feet are quick / aggressive as he works around balls and plays through a low approach. Hands are soft / sure and present well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He is aggressive and has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual downward break. Changeup shows tailing action but slows arm speed, tipping pitch to hitters. Gaining more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on mound. Phillip has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his offensive / defensive abilities.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Phillip showed strength as both a middle infielder and a hitter at his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Offensively, he showed an aggressive contact approach, generating good bat speed with a direct bat path. He got good extension with hand & hip coordination and kept his eyes behind contact for plus barrel accuracy. At short, he worked with soft/sure hands and moved his feet well to make plays and throw. He had good body control and moved with a good idea around the six hole. On the hill, he threw a FB, 11/5 CB, and a CH with run. He challenged hitter and threw strikes, keeping guys off balance with his three pitch mix. In all - Phillip is a promising ball player with good hit ability and another two years to strengthen.

07/22/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Griffor is a solid MIF who showed very well during is time at the UASW 16U Tournament. Defensively, this athletic MIF has quick footwork and moves lightly on the balls of his feet. He has smooth actions, a quick transfer/exchange and has the ability to throw from multiple arm slots. As a hitter, Phillip has a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick/direct as he connects with pop and drives the ball on a line consistently. Phillip also got on the mound and competed. He fills up the zone and throws strikes consistently. Delivery is compact and repeatable with sound mechanics. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup has sink. Phillip is a versatile athlete who can makes things happen in many facets of the game.

05/03/2015 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Phillip is a 5'8/155 lbs SS/RHP that showed very strong ability defensively and offensively in his first Baseball Factory outing. Offensively, he hit with natural rhythm and had a clean line-drive stroke. He had a spray approach with advanced feel to hit and worked his hands and hips together to generate bat whip to and through the zone. At short, he worked out in front with sure hands and body control. He had a solid exchange and threw with momentum to first by playing through the ball low with an engaged lower. On the hill, he threw a FB with run from 76-77, spun an 11/5 CB from 60-61, and flashed feel for a cut CH at 68-70. Mechanically, his actions were easy, balanced, and natural like at other spots on the diamond. Overall - Phillip has current tools that will play at the next level and with another 2 years to develop will be a known name with college coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
