Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3BPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Phillip is a talented 3B prospect who has a well-rounded skill set offensively and defensively. As a right-handed hitter, Phillip has an open stance and centered balance. He takes a good load and his lower half leads his swing as he effectively engages his whole body throughout his swing. Phillip flash fast bat speed and gets good leverage at contact. He has power to the pull side. In the field, Phillip plays with effective pre-pitch actions and takes the correct angles to cover good ground. He presents his glove and fields it squarely with soft hands and a clean exchange. Phillip has a short arm action throwing from a high 3/4 slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball producing consistent, strong throws across the diamond. Overall, Phillip has talent on both sides of the ball and good upside as he continues to progress his skills with development.

03/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Phillip showed only at 3B at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved his power numbers, now displaying outstanding power potential. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and he shows plus barrel accuracy with baseball exploding off bat when centered. He has strength in his swing with pop showing best to the pull side. At 3B, feet are athletic as he works around balls and presents glove well out front through a low approach. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He shows off his athletic abilities on his backhand play.

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Phillip is a big, solid, and athletic 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Defensive abilities are outstanding, displaying smooth actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process, displaying a sure glove. He attacks balls and plays through well with his body. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work through a level swing path. He will put the ball in play and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 5 for 12. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws a lot of strikes. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained and develops better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. Phillip has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
