Official Scouting Report

07/20/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Pierce is a very coachable 2019 graduate who genuinely wants to improve. On the mound he gathers well, stays in-line to target and finishes with extension out front. He will improve by lengthening arm action, refraining from wrapping arm and driving lower half to target. At first base Pierce showed a good pre-pitch position and presents good target but needs to improve lateral quickness/agility, play from ground up and long toss for arm strength. At the plate Pierce displayed a good setup and balance but needs to develop a more aggressive approach, looser/smoother actions and drive lower half through the ball.

03/23/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Union City, CA Pierce is a 2-way player (1B/RHP) with a tall frame (6'1"/155 lbs). With the bat, he shows a tall setup with good rhythm getting back into a loaded position. He delivers the barrel on a level path and creates consistent contact. At 1B, Pierce works into position behind the ground ball while maintaining loose actions. He shows good footwork around the bag and has the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. On the mound, this RHP reaches a controlled balanced point and keeps his eyes on the target. He works to stay on top of the ball and work downhill off of the rubber. FB shows some cut while topping out at 60 mph. Overall abilities in his game will improve with the following.

Offensively
1. Smoother rhythm
2. Avoid lunging
Defensively
1. Footwork/agility
2. Pre-pitch setup
Pitching
1. Stride/Direction
2. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
