Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

07/06/2016 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Pierce is a young, promising two-way player who plays above his tools and has made significant strides already toward becoming a prospect to watch. He shows surprising raw power at the plate when he gets his arms extended. Pierce has a selectively aggressive approach with a quiet setup that allows him to be ready for any pitch. He has a quick bat and a compact swing that helps him make consistent contact. Strengthening his lower half will allow Pierce to impact the baseball with more authority and show some extra base hit power. On the mound, he shows a quality three pitch mix from a high 3/4 arm slot. His fastball shows natural late run and his changeup is deceptive, thrown with fastball arm speed. Overall, Pierce is fun to watch play the game and he has plenty of potential to become a solid prospect.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Pierce Rucci is a freshman SS/RHP that was extremely hardworking and coachable at the Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City. Defensively at short, he displayed decent lateral movement, making plays with a sure glove. He showed some backhand feel and threw with accuracy across the diamond. During individual defense, he worked on coming to get his hops more aggressively and getting his hips lower to field (which in turn got the glove further in front). Offensively, he was aggressive to hit with his relaxed approach, and showed good tracking ability, patiently waiting to deliver the barrel on a direct path. He implemented more of a load, getting his lower half engaged and hands in a good slot to launch. He was 3 for 5 in his ABs with an RBI. On the mound, he threw a tailing/sinking FB from 66-68, and spun a 10/4 CB from 59-60. He had a good tempo with his repeatable delivery, and threw from multiple arm slots - 3/4 and low 3/4 - effectively throwing off the hitters balance. In all - Pierce is a young prospect that has sound fundamental skill to continue strengthening.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
