09/20/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Pierson is a skilled R/R backstop (6'0"/155). Behind the dish, he sits in athletically while presenting a low target. Quick footwork allows him to move well laterally and body up pitches in the dirt. Exchange is quick/clean as he gains ground toward 2B putting strong/accurate throws on the bag (pop times of 1.94). As a hitter - Hoy shows a balanced setup as he waits for his pitch. Swing is quick as he works to engage his lower 1/2 helping to generate torque resulting in pop off of his barrel. Developing 'smoother' rhythm to load will help to improve barrel consistency while allowing him to hit the ball where it's pitched to utilize the entire field. Hoy is a very talented catcher who has a ton of upside and who will make things happen on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
