09/29/2021 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Preston continues to showcase his baseball tools at the Arizona Senior Fall Classic. In the MIF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground in the MIF. Throws are accurate with carry (84 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel. At the event, he was 3 for 8. On the mound, he shows a controlled, repeatable delivery allowing his quick arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. He shows a great feel for pitching and maintains composure on the bump. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Preston continues shine on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active and play through with is body he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally (6.81 60 time) and covers a lot of ground At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Fastball shows a range of 73-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Preston is a very athletic R/R 2-way prospect (SS/RHP) who showed well at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. At SS, he has quick/active prep footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB working fluidly right to left. Hands are presented out front as he funnels well to a clean exchange to throw. At the plate, this righty shows an athletic stance with loose/active hands to load. He whips the barrel quickly to and through the zone, hitting it where it's pitched and spraying it to all parts of the field. On the mound and working from the stretch, Burnside throws a 3-pitch mix and challenges hitters to swing the bat. He has smooth separation, keeps his eyes on the target and repeats his delivery well. FB still sits in the upper 70's as he changes speed well, keeping hitters guessing. CB shows 11/5 shape with good depth when he stays on top. Preston (2022 grad) has a solid all-around skill-set that will only continues to progress.

07/28/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Preston continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.85 runner. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/23/2020 - All-In Membership - Columbia, SC Preston is an athletic SS who has a ton of talent. Defensively, he displays quick/active prep footwork and moves well on the balls of his feet. Lateral range is a plus as he can make the tough plays to his right and left look easy. Hands are soft/sure as he gathers smoothly and has a quick transfer/exchange to throw. With the bat, this RHH maintains a balanced approach with rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel to and through the zone as he connects and creates consistent/hard contact. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. This 2022 MIF prospect can make things happen in a variety of ways and is a definitely a player to keep an eye on.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
