03/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Nashville, TN Preston is a tall SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At SS, Preston shows fluid footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with a firm glove. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them on-line through his target. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid to load and drives through well with his lower half. He works through a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and great gap to gap power. On the mound, Preston gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a quick arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with his chest square to his target. Preston shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph. Breaking ball sits from 66-67mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 68-70mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Preston is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

05/16/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Parker (Denver), CO Preston showed top skills to date during his last workout in Denver. He is a lean, athletic, talented athlete with a high ceiling. At SS, Preston has quick/fluid footwork, soft/presentable hands, and he fields low and athletically. He makes plays smoothly, his exchange is quick, and he throws with strength and accuracy to his target. On the mound, Preston has a loose/free arm circle, good balance, and he pounds the zone. His CB shows 11-5 sharp break, he gets good extension on his pitches, and finishes completely. At the plate, Preston can really swing it from both sides. He is slightly better from the left at this point. He has explosive bat speed, good balance, and he makes hard/level contact to all fields. Keep you eye on Preston.

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Preston continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the MIF, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure but needs to present more out front. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH where he has improved his hitting / power potential. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters, mixes pitches well, and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
