11/22/2015 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Preston is a RHP with a 3-pitch mix. He can run his FB up to 83 mph from a 3/4 slot that encourages some natural tail. His curve has 10-4 shape from that slot and shows potential as his out pitch. He complements those two offerings with a change that he does a good job of maintaining his arm speed, but he needs to throw it more to improve the touch and feel. His delivery is more connected out of the stretch where the synchronicity leads to higher velo numbers. Some refinements to his wind up should unlock more mphs and allow him to throw more consistent strikes. He also swings the bat with quick hands and shows the ability to drive balls the opposite way. When you combine the breaking ball with the arm slot, Preston has the look of a quality reliever at the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
