07/03/2019 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Preston continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with accuracy on line zip (86 mph velocity). Range will increase as he improves his foot speed. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for pitch with tailing action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Preston continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact. At the event, he was 3 for 6 with a 2B. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-74 mph with arm side run. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/15/2018 - College PREP - Auburndale (Tampa), FL Preston is an athletic 2021 OF prospect. In the OF, Preston has an active prep step and creates angles to the ball. He makes the routine play and has a strong arm for the position. At the plate, Preston starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He has good pitch recognition and uses his lower half. Preston will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
