Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

02/20/2021 - Mid-Atlantic Combined Skills Training - Columbia, MD Preston is a SS/RHP prospect who worked hard during the Mid-Atlantic Skills Weekend. On the mound, Preston gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He keeps his eyes on target and works inline toward the plate. Preston shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 66mph. Breaking ball sits from 49-50mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 55-58mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Preston improve his pitch command and velocity. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and is fluid to load. He leads well with his lower half and produces consistent contact. Preston can create more quality contact by taking a shorter stride. Overall, Preston is a developing prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

12/29/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Gambrills, MD Preston is an athletic, R/R 2-way player (SS/RHP) who graduates in 2024. Defensively, he has active prep and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. Transfer is clean with accurate throws to 1B. Working to field the ball more out in front while playing through it will aid in his development on the left side of the INF. With the bat, this righty stands in with a tall setup and centered balance. He tracks pitches into the zone, barrels the ball up and sprays it to all parts of the field. More power potential is there with more drive from his lower 1/2. On the mound, Preston throws a FB, CB & CH from a 3/4 arm slot. He stays directional toward the dish and repeats well. FB ranges from 64-66 mph with some arm-side run. Breaking ball has 9/3 shape while changeup has slight run. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber with more glove side lead/tuck will help to get even more into his FB. Only a 2024 grad - Porter has skills with still a ton of time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
