Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Preston continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, presenting hands as he makes the plays. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event he was 2 for 4 with 2 BB. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball showed a range of 67-70 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Preston is a coachable RHP/SS prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Spring Training in Arizona. On the mound, Preston starts with a simple rock step and gathers over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and works with a loose arm, extending through his release. Preston shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 61mph. Breaking ball sits from 50-51mph with 10-4 break. Staying inline towards the plate can help Preston improve as a pitcher. In the field, Preston takes a good first step and displays quick footwork. He fields in an athletic position and makes a clean exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with life through his target. Preston can improve defensively by fielding the ball out in front of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load on time and is explosive driving his lower half through. He takes a smooth swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and solid line drives. Continuing to add strength can help Preston improve as a hitter. With six more years to develop, Preston has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

05/13/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Windsor (Madison), WI Preston is a young, 2-way player with an athletic frame. On the mound, Preston has a repeatable delivery, a clean arm action, and he works in good rhythm. He separates on time, gets good extension on his pitches, and lands in a complete position. At SS, Preston has fluid/active feet, agile movements, and his hands are firm. He has a quick exchange and accuracy with momentum to his target. Offensively, Preston has a square set-up, a short/square stride, and he swings in good rhythm. He has good balance, makes square contact, and swings aggressively through the ball. Preston can improve overall skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
