Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/29/2016 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Quinton continues to show improvements in his baseball tools with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he improved his hitting abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 4 for 10. At 2B, he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are quick as he moves well laterally, displaying range. He plays through balls and presents his glove well out front. Hands/feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. On the mound, fastball shows in the low 80 range with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Quinton has a great personality, is very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/03/2016 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Quinton continues to show well and progress on the diamond. On the mound, this righty has an effective 4-pitch arsenal coming from an over the top arm slot. He has smooth separation and drives downhill off of the rubber. FB cracks the mitt at 84 mph while showing late run. Breaking ball has 12/6 shape with tight spin. He has a quick arm action and maintains the same arm speed on all pitches, helping to create deception. He works the ball in and out and will challenge hitters. At SS, Heck has smooth/athletic actions working fluidly around the GB from right to left. He has soft/sure hands and has a quick exchange - firing strong throws across the diamond. With the bat, this righty steps into the box with a purpose looking to swing it. He tracks pitches into the zone and off of the barrel, squaring the ball up with pop to his pull-side. Quinton is a solid 2-way prospect who will make an impact in a variety of ways on the diamond.

07/07/2014 - National Tryout - Cleveland, OH Heck has made great strides in his game. On the bump, he works downhill as he stays on top of his pitches. FB tops out at 78 mph while breaking ball has 11/5 shape. Changeup is effective as it has run and is thrown with FB arm speed. At SS, Quinton shows prep as he works on the balls of his feet. He fields the ball cleanly, makes the plays, and makes accurate throws to 1B. With the bat, this RHH shows quiet actions with a patient approach, letting the ball travel. He squares it up and hits it on a line. Getting into a loaded position earlier will help to improve abilities at the plate. Only a 2017 grad - Quinton should find success on the diamond.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Quinton is a lean 2B/RHP that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best at 2B for the next level. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He moves well side to side, displaying range. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to attack balls more, play through while presenting hands more out front, and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, Heck shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work through a direct swing path. He displays an aggressive approach and makes consistent hard contact and he displays good barrel accuracy. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he learns to load better and use his lower half more. At the event, he drew 4 BB as he displays a patient approach and solid eye. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard. With 4 years to further develop, Quinton has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
