08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Rafael is an athletic OF who is a very hard worker. He is a coachable player who makes adjustments quickly. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls with speed. He secures the ball with sure hands and works through it well, with momentum towards his target. Gaining more ground with a crow-hop will help to get even more into his throws. With the bat, this lefty shows an athletic and open setup with centered balance. He has fluid rhythm to load, whips the barrel on a level path and shows pop to his pull-side. Continuing to work on hitting the ball where it's pitched by utilizing the entire field will help to improve skills at the plate. Rafael has a solid all-around skill-set and should find success as he enters his senior year.

11/15/2015 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Rafael is a young OF who continues to work hard on his skills. As a hitter - he stands in square with patience, waiting for his pitch. Swing is level to and through the zone as he works to drive the middle of the field. Whipping the barrel with more bat speed will result in increased power. In the OF, Rafael hustles to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball and has a clean exchange to throw. He works through it in-line toward his target. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will help to take his abilities in the OF to the next level. A 2018 grad - Rafael still has a ton of time to develop his tools to get to where he wants to be.

07/07/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition Rafael is an athletic young man with a lot of talent. In the outfield he displayed good hands, speed/footwork and athleticism. Improvement can be made by getting in a good pre-pitch position, move to back up plays and continue to strengthen his arm. On the mound Rafael showed good tempo, loose actions and he gathers well. He needs to finish with chest out over front leg, get more extension and keep front side closed. At the plate Rafael activates his hands well, delivers barrel to the ball and has good rhythm. He can improve by driving the backside through the ball (rather than spinning), keep head still and track the ball all the way to contact.

06/01/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Medford (Boston), MA Rafael is a left handed hitting, left handed throwing OF/LHP that will graduate in 2018. Offensively, he had good balance, fluid rhythm, and displayed an ability to accelerate the barrel through contact. In the OF, he was sure handed, efficient with his feet, and accurate with his arm. He stayed in-line to throw and was quick with his transfer/release. On the mound, he kept his eyes on the target and worked with a good tempo. He gathered over the rubber, and landed square with his lower half. Overall - Rafael is an intriguing young player that has good hit ability.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
