Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18)
Rafael is a raw catcher who's a team player and hard worker. Behind the plate, Rafael has good balance, firm hands, and he holds a low target. He works around the ball well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a short arm to 2nd base. At the plate, Rafael has a square setup, he loads well, and he keeps a still head. He swings on plane, makes consistent contact, and hustles down the line. Continued reps and added physical strength will help overall abilities improve.

Rafael is a lean catcher who will graduate in 2020. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.29-2.46 with accuracy/carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft/sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process but will benefit by letting the ball travel more. He uses his body well through the blocking process and moves well laterally, centering all balls out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Rafael has abilities with time and room to progress his game.
