01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament RJ showed high level skills offensively and defensively at the UA Pre-Season, and also threw off the mound. At the plate, RJ has open/relaxed approach, a short stride, and explosive bat speed. He makes hard/consistent contact, rotates his core engaging his lower 1/2, and he hits line drives gap-to-gap. Defensively, RJ fields the ball in a low/athletic position and shows quick/active footwork. He has sure hands, a clean glove, and he gains momentum toward his target, throwing with life and carry. On the mound, RJ has a good presence, a loose/clean arm circle, and he finishes completely. He attacks hitters, throws strikes, and finishes in an athletic position.

05/12/2019 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX RJ continues to shine on the diamond. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event where he displays well above average defensive abilities. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. At 3B, feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws are accurate with on line carry. At the plate, hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Randall (RJ) is a lean and talented 3B prospect. At the hot corner, RJ has an active prep step and fields the ball in an athletic position. He has a clean exchange, a quick release, and makes accurate throws. On double plays, he works off the bag well and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, RJ starts in an open stance and has a simple load in his hands. In game, he has a middle approach and hunted the fastball early in counts. He creates backside drive with his lower half, has good barrel control, and stays balanced through out contact. RJ will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/17/2018 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Randall is a tall and athletic 2020 Catching prospect that worked hard throughout the Junior Fall Classic. Behind the dish, R.J starts in a balanced primary/secondary stance and works behind the ball when receiving. He leads with his glove to block and controls the ball with his chest. He has a clean exchange, a quick release, and makes strong throws to the bases. At the plate, R.J starts in an athletic stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He creates good leverage and shows pull side power. He needs to continue attack the inside part of the ball and create back rotation with his lower half. Getting his front foot down on time will allow him to see the ball deep into the contact zone and adjust to higher velocity pitchers. R.J is a versatile player and will continue to improve with experience.

06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) RJ is a coachable prospect who continued to work hard on his skills during his time at the Omaha National World Series. Behind the plate, RJ gets around the ball and covers up well when blocking balls in the dirt. He sits in a square stance and receives the ball with soft hands. He shows a quick exchange with a quick release on his throws to 2B, keeping them consistently on-line to the bag. RJ can improve defensively by setting up in a wider stance. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and maintains center balance. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He gets good extension through the zone with fast bat speed which leads to square contact and good pop to his pull side. RJ can improve as a hitter by taking a more level swing path. Overall, RJ is a talented prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

03/19/2017 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX RJ is a tall, lean C/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential. Hands are quick through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and utilizes his lower half with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power shows best to the pull side. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.35-2.39 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking and is a wall behind the plate. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Feet are active as he attacks balls, playing through well. Range will increase as he works to increase foot quickness. With 3 years to further develop, RJ has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
