08/08/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Raphael is an intriguing 2019 OF/RHP prospect who continues to improve. He is currently ahead as an outfielder with solid actions in the field and at the plate. In the outfield, he works through the ball, gaining momentum to his target and keeping runners where they are. He has a quick arm with online carry and a quick release to throw. Getting a better first step is the final step to becoming a complete outfielder. At the dish, Douglas has an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to load and launch. He lets his hands work in the zone and has a level path to make hard, line drive contact. Raphael is a solid, young player who has a bright future on the diamond.

01/18/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Omaha, NE Douglas has really improved his baseball skills since the last time that we saw him with a promising future on the diamond. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 74 mph. On the mound, he shows good tempo and works through a balance point. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. At the plate, he shows a squared, athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive, level swing. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more through his lower half. In the OF, he has improved defensive abilities, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. With 3 years to further develop, Raphael has a lot of potential and will be a sure player to follow.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Raphael is a young two way player who is solid defensively in the OF and very promising on the mound. As a RHP, he gets tons of movement on his pitches, has natural sink to his fastball due to a very loose and fast arm action. His FB has good run and sink and he keeps his delivery consistent on his change-up which changes speeds well and has good sinking movement as well. He has good mound presence and works with great pace. Raphael rushes at times which creates inconsistency with his control left and right. Defensively, Raphael is a good young outfielder who shows good footwork and a quick release but could catch the ball at higher points and work around better on ground balls. At the plate, he is very quiet with his body due to an athletic setup and solid middle-away approach allowing him to spray the ball to all fields. Raphael is a very good teammate, plays the game hard and competes each time out.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
