05/29/2011 - College PREP - Bowie, MD
Raul showed similar skills in Bowie, MD as he has done in previous workouts. He is a tall, athletic SS with sure hands and efficient footwork. Raul fields from the right, he moves well laterally, and he turns the double play quickly. He has a clean exchange, a long / loose arm action, and he throws with accuracy and average strength to his target. If Raul can play in a lower, more athletic position, and field further out in front of his body, defensive numbers can spike. Offensively, Raul has a square set-up, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, quick hands, and fast bat speed. Raul makes hard / consistent contact, he swings in good rhythm, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. More direct hands to the ball, and keeping his swing short should help numbers rise.
07/31/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 1
Raul is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a SS/2B with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but need to be more aggressive in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Defensive abilities are slightly above average in the middle of the IF. Arm strength is near average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. Currently, arm will only play at 2B for the next level. At the plate is where Shah shows best displaying soid average abilities with slightly above average power through a balanced approach. Hands work well through the zone, flashing bat speed and he shows feel for the barrel. He is a line drive type hitter that uses the middle of the field well. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. With 3 years to further develop, Raul has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
