  • 3BPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Raul is a skilled LHH 3B who can swing it. At the plate, this lefty shows a open/balanced stance with loose hands in his setup. He gets to a strong launch position, fires the barrel and creates extension through contact. The ball jumps off of his bat (exit velocity = 93 mph). He has a great 2-strike approach, battles and doesn't go down easily. At 3B, Raul works into a square fielding position and tracks the GB into his mitt. He gathers well and has a clean/quick transfer to throw. A well-rounded athlete - Soria has the tools that will translate well into the next level.

10/05/2016 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Raul showed for the first time at 3B and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around and plays through balls with his body. He moves well laterally and presents soft /sure hands well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with carry, and accuracy on his throws across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows good barrel accuracy with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with a 3B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate, works hard, and is very coachable.

02/21/2016 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Raul is a prospect in the MIF who will graduate in 2019 with a promising future on the diamond. Defensive abilities are well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He moves well laterally and shows good angles, getting around the baseball. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life / carry / accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball and shows a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap pop. With 4 years to further develop, Raul has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
