10/12/2011 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2011 Raymond continued to show his tools and athleticism at the Arizona Senior Fall Classic. He is a versatile defender who shows a good feel for the catching position. He throws accurately in the 2.0 range with solid carry to his throws. In addition, Raymond is a quality receiver with soft hands. At the plate he has an advanced approach using the whole field and showing good discipline. His line drive stroke plays well and he uses his surprising speed to put pressure on the defense. He hustles everywhere and sets a good example for his teammates. Overall, Raymond will continue to fill out and should be a very good player at the next level.

06/16/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Raymond showed as a two-way player at the event as a catcher and on the mound. Currently, he projects best as a catcher where he has improved offensive grades. Pop times show in the 2.10 range with quality blocking and receiving skills. Offensively, hitting grades and power numbers are well above average. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the ball at contact, creating extension. He shows feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Lower half works well through a balanced approach. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 2B, 3B, and HR. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with life. He needs to work on developing off speed pitches as he has abilities on the mound. Raymond is very athletic with good instincts as he shows as a player that can play many positions.

12/27/2010 - UA Recruiting Classic - 2010 Jones showed solid improvements in his overall game during his time at the UA Recruiting Classic. He improved his arm grade from 42 to 48, as well has his hitting and power grades from 35 to 42, and 38 to 42. Defensively, Raymond showed soft hands, playable feet, and he frames the ball well. He has a clean exchange and a quick accurate arm to his target. Offensively, Raymond is an aggressive hitter with good lower 1/2 rotation. He uses the middle of the field well, and went 3 for 5 in live at bats. Raymond improved from a Tier C to a Tier B player for his recent efforts.

11/07/2010 - College PREP - Salem, OR Raymond is a young, athletic Catcher with a solid / athletic build. Defensively, Raymond has playable hands and feet, athletic actions, and he holds a low target. He blocks and receives well, looks the ball in, and he repeats his actions. Raymond has a short arm action with accuracy and carry to his target. His pop times were as low at 1.97 at the workout. Abilities behind the plate can get better if Raymond can loose his actions, and works to gain more ground. Offensively, Raymond has a tall set-up, proper load, and he makes consistent contact. He has a short swing path, a line drive approach, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Offensive numbers can further improve with a looser grip, wider base, and a quicker bat through the hitting zone.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
