Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/SSPosition Projection

12/20/2009 - College PREP - Agoura Hills, CA Reece again had a strong workout at the middle INF positions in Agoura Hills on 12/20/09. He is currently projecting best as a 2B due to his current arm strength. Reece has good footwork, hands, and overall idea at both INF positions. He fields the baseball out in front of his body, shows a good backhand, and consistently makes the plays. Defensive ability can improve with added arm strength and more pre-pitch routine. Offensively, Reece has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He makes good use of his strong frame by tapping into his lower 1/2. He has a proper load, his stride is online, and he attacks the baseball. Reece is able to stay inside the baseball well, and he uses all fields. Overall, Reece is a good sized, INF that can add some pop in the line-up.

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 During T1-West, Reece continued to show good consistency. He, once again, improved his 60-time. At SS, showed loose quick actions that allowed for decent lateral movement. Stayed low to field all balls which allowed for quick release. Had soft hands while fielding ball out front. Stringent long toss program will help improve arm strength and velocity. At the plate, had short compact swing which showed the ability to find the barrel on every swing. He was able to keep head over the plate because of his good balance throughout swing. Staying back allowed him to use lower half effectively and drive balls to all fields.

05/30/2009 - E-ACR - California 1 Reece had good workout by improving his 60-time, velocity, and hitting grade while at this event. At SS, had good lateral movement with quick first step. Fielded the ball out front as he came from the right to played thru it aggressively and follow his throws. Every backhand play was clean with accurate throws. Showed good, quick double play feeds and turns. Stringent long toss program will help increase arm speed and velocity. At the plate, good early load allowed him to utilize his quick hands. Used his lower half well and was able to stay up the middle. Was able to hold his ground and have a repeatable swing.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Preseason All America - 2009 Reece is a sure-handed young middle infielder with sound actions. He takes good angles to the ball, though his lateral range needs to improve. Would like to see actions loosen in general. Offensively, he stays on the plane a long time. Balance is good throughout the swing and he uses all fields effectively. Batspeed and overall strength need to improve. Young player with a good idea defensively and time to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
