Richard continues to show steady improvement. He ran his best 60 time to date, cutting a tenth off his 60 time. He also improved his arm strength grade but does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in developing more arm strength. He has a thin frame that does show projection as it continues to physically mature and could speed the process by developing more overall body strength through a weight program. He showed off his athletic ability in his feeds and turns with double plays. He is aggressive with his feet and can utilize more by playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. At the plate, Maier is a contact hitter that stays on top of the baseball. Hitting grades would improve quickly with some instruction and adjustments at the plate. Richard has potential abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Richard is an aggressive player who works very hard at everything he does. He has a great work ethic and makeup. We saw him at SS, but arm strength projects best at 2B until it improves. He has a quick release and feet work better then the 60 time indicates. He needs to continue to get plenty of ground balls and polish up a few things, but with his athleticism he will make quick adjustments. He flashed some bat speed at the plate and when centered ball came off well. With overall strength he will improve in all areas.
06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008
Richard displayed good athletic baseball actions. Shows good hand-eye coordination at the plate. Displayed an above average infielding approach, but footwork needs to be a little smoother. As he matures and gets stronger all ares of his game will improve.
07/12/2007 - Cape Cod Training 2007 - Week 1
As he grows into his feet and legs, he will improve body control and add strength. Showed good actions in general, and good hand eye coordination. Route to contact can be shortened some, and his footwork and approach to ground balls has room to improve as well.

Richard does a good job of centering the ball at 2B. Shows some quickness in his feet. Glove tends to get down late and upper half is stiff through the play. Flat-footed when he fields the ball. Rhythm needs to improve. At the plate, Richard needs to improve his balance. Tends to bar out early and cut off the swing. Lower half rotation could improve as well. He does a good job of getting the bat on the ball consistently. Stays on top of the pitch and is aggressive. Young and will continue to improve.
