Official Scouting Report

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ricky is a strong and athletic 2020 Catching prospect that was eager to learn. Behind the dish, Ricky showed good leadership skills and worked hard during drill work. When throwing he replaces his feet and makes accurate throws with a clean release. He needs to continue to present a low target and work behind the ball when receiving. Continuing to lead with his glove and controlling balls in the dirt with his chest will make him an efficient blocker. At the plate, Ricky looks to use the whole field and had several good at bats throughout the week. He stars in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside drive with his lower half. He needs to continue to control the barrel and improve his pitch recognition. Ricky is a smart player and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/27/2018 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Ricky is a tall, solid, and athletic C/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.41 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks balls well and sticks balls in the zone but will benefit by squaring stance up. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process with grade improving as he works to get down sooner. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Hands are clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a crouched / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and flashing gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Ricky has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
