Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

08/11/2019 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Ricky showed many improvements in his game during his last workout with The Factory. He ran his best 60 to date at 6.98 seconds, raised arm velocity to 81 MPH, and posted solid defensive and offensive numbers. At 3B, Ricky has soft hands, active feet, and he fields low and athletically. He makes plays consistently, plays through the baseball, and has a loose arm action with life and carry across the diamond. On the mound, Ricky has good balance over the rubber and a loose/free arm circle. He separates his hands on time, gets good extension, and works on a downhill plane. Offensively, Ricky has an athletic stance, fast bat speed, and he makes square contact. He swings in good rhythm and shows the ability to spray to all fields.

04/28/2019 - College PREP - Manalapan, NJ Ricky is a tall RHP/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Ricky gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes square to his target. Ricky shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 63-64mph with sharp 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 68-69mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Ricky shows quick footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and gets back into his load well. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact and line drives. Overall, Ricky is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

07/17/2018 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Ricky showed nice overall improvements in all areas during his last workout in Trenton. Velocity on the mound improved to 77 MPH and hitting and power to 48 and 50. At 3B, Ricky showed good pre-pitch actions, active feet, and solid/fluid hands. He presents his glove well, has a clean exchange, and throws with a quick arm action with carry and accuracy to his target. On the mound, Ricky has a loose arm with life, he keeps his eyes on target, and works in good rhythm. He has a compact delivery, good glove side lead, and is around the zone with all of his pitches. At the plate, Ricky has an aggressive swing, good balance, and fast bat speed. He swings on plane, has pop into the gaps, and he uses his lower body.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Ricky is a big, strong, athletic prospect who shows ability both on the mound and as a third baseman. He has a big arm with a loose, clean stroke to make strong throws from third and get good movement on his pitches. He is active at the hot corner with good footwork and quick actions to cover the position well. He shows a strong glove angle to the glove side and makes tough plays in the hole. Playing from the ground up will allow him to dictate hops and make more clean plays. At the dish, he is strong in his setup with fluid actions and good balance to stay on any pitch. He works on a direct path to the ball to make consistent, square contact and hit line drive gap to gap. On the mound, this big right hander pounds the zone with control of his three-pitch mix, using a downhill plane and simple mechanics to repeat his delivery. His fastball tops out at 76mph with tail and sink, his curveball has tight spin and 10-4 shape and his changeup has good sinking action. Ricky is an intriguing prospect who has a high ceiling on the field.

07/10/2017 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Ricky is a tall RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic / squared setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft / sure but needs to present more out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and play through balls more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Ricky has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
