08/23/2008 - College PREP - Purchase, NY Ricky is a young LHP with lean, athletic looking body. Arm strength is slightly average and does need further development through a strict long toss program. Fastball shows life out of his hand with late arm side run. Breaking ball and changeup are above average pitches. Breaking ball displays a 2/8 shape with tight spin. He shows a solid feel for his changeup with late sinking action. Delivery displays great tempo with on time separation. He does need to work on his mechanics out of the stretch as his velocities fell off as well as feel for his pitches. With 2 years to further develop, Hodge will get attention from the college coaches with his abilities from the left side of the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
